MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE is a dark comedy-drama that follows the journey of Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), a U.S. Army veteran in Afghanistan, who is at odds with her family over the presence of Zoe (Natalie Morales), her deceased best friend from the military. Despite the tenacity of her veterans group advisor (Morgan Freeman), the stern love of her mother (Gloria Ruben) and the frivolity of an unexpected love interest, Merit and Zoe’s tender but fruitless friendship keeps the two women isolated from the world. That is until her grandfather Merritt (Ed Harris), holed up in his ancestral lake house, begins to lose his way and needs the one thing she refuses… help. Ultimately, it’s a film about complicated friendships, broken families and the complex ways we deal with grief.
